ABS is the salon professional's choice for the best education and events, product orientation and purchasing, networking and socializing event. The event is organized by beauty professionals for professionals. Too bad the event is closed to the general public. The day consisted of many checking out the new products available for salon, creating network relationships and the hair superstar dressers such as Angus Mitchell from the John Paul Mitchell Systems. The finale for March 28th was the hair and beauty fashion show titled, "Surrealism HairArt Collection 2009" featuring the talents of Gina Khan and Chrystofer Benson. The one hour event packed the Ballroom area as the light brought beautiful run way models, music and hair to the attendees. Our first presenter, Gina Khan, came out to discuss the advances by Logics Color DNA System followed by Chrytofer Benson and his crew, who gave us a live show of hair. Benson worked 3 of the models into a dazzling hair fashion.

The event runs through the weekend so if you are in the business of hair get out there.

Estelle Shines Chicago

Estelle Shines Chicago's House of Blues
House of Blues - Chicago, IL, USA - February 25, 2009
by Toyin Alaka

Estelle is an entertainer. Her onstage crew consisted of two male backup singers/dancers, a drummer, a bassist and a keyboardist as well as a DJ. She's got an English accent which in itself makes people take notice. I know that it draws people in. She's very at ease with herself on stage and talks to her audience as though she is talking to her best girlfriends. That's exactly how she started her set, she talked to the audience, told them about the song she was about to perform. She performed "So Much Out the Way," "No Substitute Love," "More Than Friends" and "Shine" all from her album Shine. In between talking to her audience, she curses a bit like a sailor, however it's part of her keep it real charm. She's got a certain style that's new and fresh as well as reminiscent of the oldies but goodies, she slides easily from songs on her album to hits by the Temptations and then disco queen CeCe Penniston's "You've Got to Show Me Love" which was mixed surprisingly yet beautifully with her hit "American Boy" driving the audience wild. She even did a cover of Coldplay's "God Put a Smile on My Face." Very diverse, her range is a hip hop vibe with a silky crooning reminiscent of old school mastery.

The 70th anniversary of Walt Disney's Pinocchio makes it's way onto the Blu-ray format and if you loved this movie before, you will be shocked with the improvement of the richly detailed picture and audio quality. The story of Gepetto's wooden puppet that comes to life and becomes a real boy is a timeless tale that is sure to warm the hearts of everyone. With the introduction to our wonderful narrator, Jiminy Cricket, and the award winning song ("When You Wish Upon A Star") you will be captivated from the first scene and be begging for more at the ending. While I am sure everyone knows the story and adventures of Pinocchio, seeing it in the updated Blu-ray format truly breathes a new life into this classic and it's hard to believe that it is 70 years old when you see and hear the updated restoration. Even though animated movies have come a long way, a good story such as Pinochio stands the test of time.
