Samsung AT&T Summer Krush concert with Jay-Z at HOB Chicago

Samsung AT&T Summer Krush concert with Jay-Z at HOB Chicago
House of Blues – September 8, 2009 – Chicago, IL, USA
by Toyin Alaka, photo by Raymond Boyd

Samsung AT&T Summer Krush came to Chicago giving a free concert at the House Of Blues with Multi-Media Mogul Jay-Z showcasing a new phone, the Samsung Jack. The Samsung Jack was used at various interactive stations featuring the "Krush Challenge" which is somewhat like the game of Tetris that allowed concert goers the opportunity to check out the new phone's organizational skills and to win a number of prizes including the Samsung Jack and an electric Guitar.

Jay-Z stepped on stage in all black to the voice of Rihanna singing the chorus to "Run This Town" his latest single featuring Kanye West & Rihanna. The intensity in which the song was delivered served as an adrenaline rush that electrified the crowd. Dominating the stage Jay-Z captivated the audience with his tenacious confidence that we like to call "swagger." With a full band backing him, he then launched into "D.O.A." sending the crowd into an almost uncontrollable frenzy. Memphis Bleek much to the crowds delight then joins him on stage for U Don't Know, 99 Problems, I Know, Big Pimpin, Hard Knock Life. With about an hour and twenty minutes he also managed to perform: Allure, Venus & Mars, Haters, Dirt off Your Shoulders, Heart of the City, his part on Kanye's Diamonds are Forever, Jigga my Nigga, Give it to Me, Show Me What you Got, & Encore. By mixing the old and the new this was by far one of the most electrifying performances that totally free was brought to us by Samsung AT&T Summer Krush.

For the LOVE of the Cult

For the LOVE of the Cult
House of Blues - Chicago, IL, USA - September 2, 2009
by Jackie Lee King

The Cult, as with many other artists currently touring, are giving fans a treat in that they are featuring a specific album and playing it cover to cover live. The record in question is their iconic release "LOVE." The band was a little late getting to the stage, and the opening song (track one, side one) "Nirvana" seemed a little sluggish, but the rest of the first set was a perfect memory of 1985.

The Goth Rock scene was well represented, but upon the completion of the first set, about 40 people left the audience. Granted, this was a show nearing the venue's capacity, and their presence wasn't missed, but the tone of the evening took a sharp nosedive into vehemence as the band came back to the stage to play their more metal music.

Blink 182: Don't Blink Or You Might Miss It!

Blink 182: Don't Blink Or You Might Miss It!
First Midwest Bank Amphitheatre – Tinley Park, IL, USA – August 15, 2009
by Dan Hargesheimer

Before even arriving at the at the venue, you know a concert of this magnitude is going to be so great; you are going to want to frame the ticket, upload the photos from your phone onto Facebook so that everyone knows you were there, and do everything in your power to make sure this one never escapes your memory. When it was first announced that Blink-182 was getting back together, going out on tour, making new music together, most of their fans, both faithful and fair-weather, did everything in their power to get their hands on any ticket that would allow them within 100 yards of possibly the best pop-punk band of all time! Then next you mix in bands opening for them named Fall Out Boy, Panic at the Disco, and outside of the Chicago show, bands that you may have heard of before... Weezer, Motion City Soundtrack, All American Rejects and more! It's hard to top a lineup like that unless the weekend festival is called The Vans Warped Tour or Lollapalooza.
